Catherine (Cat) Carter started doing stained glass in 1983 when she got talked into taking a class by a friend. What started out as a hobby, turned into a small home business, then into a store front that she ran from 1988- 2006 as Carter's Stained Glass Studio. The business included doing classes, custom work, selling supplies, doing repair, and selling ready-made gift items. In 2006, due to family issues, it was time to move back home and she and husband, John Stiles, move to Kingston Springs, Tn. right outside of Nashville.

The focus now is to be an artist. After 25 years of doing what everybody else wanted her to do, it is time for Cat to do what she wants to do and create artistic pieces for sale with an occasional custom piece when her arm gets twisted. Pottery was a craft she always wanted to learn and her desire turned to reality in 2007 when she started taking pottery classes. Organic Farming and raising chickens for eggs was another love that she never had much time for. Now all three love's make up her small home business.

Cat can now as much or as little as she feels like each day and can take time off to enjoy family and friends. Gone are the days of project deadlines and having to open the store each day at a set time.

You are invited to view her Cat's work on this website, on the etsy.com site, at one of the locations she sells her work, or at a craft show she may do.

Cat and John have done animal rescue in the past, especially border collies, and also help with events for "The Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation ". 8 rescue dogs, 4 rescue cats and 35 chickens live with them at the 6 acre farm they call home. The next fund raising event they will be involved with is at Mud Puddle Pottery in Pegram Tn on Saturday May 10th. John and his beloved border collie "Abby" will be doing a service dog demo in addition to Frisbee. John was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2001 and Abby was trained to be his service dog and can alert Cat if he falls down, get the phone, open and shut doors, bring objects to someone, and pick up dropped objects off the floor. She is a great companion as well and it helps John get through his day just knowing that she will be with him. She is a great ice-breaker and it helps John meet and talk to people who may be wary of how he walks and moves.
