Catherine (Cat) Carter started doing stained glass in 1983 when she got talked into taking a class by a friend. What started out as a hobby, turned into a small home business, then into a store front that she ran from 1988- 2006 as Carter's Stained Glass Studio. The business included doing classes, custom work, selling supplies, doing repair, and selling hand made gift items. In 2006, due to family issues, it was time to move back home and she and husband, John Stiles, move to Kingston Springs, Tn. right outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

The focus then was to be an artist. After 26 years of doing what everybody else wanted her to do, it was time for Cat to do what she wants to do and create artistic pieces for sale with an occasional custom piece when her arm got twisted. Pottery was a craft she always wanted to learn and her desire turned to reality in 2008 when she started taking pottery classes.

You are invited to view her Cat's work on this Web site, or go to Cat's etsy site,  http://www.etsy.com/shop/barncatstudio visit one of the locations she sells her work, or at a craft show she may do.

Cat is still doing custom work and repair!!!

WHY THE NAME BARNCATSTUDIO?? - I sell on etsy using the name barncatstudio because I now have my studio in the barn??  It may not look like much from the outside, but  the inside is a cozy studio with front room for stained glass and teaching classes, and a separate back room for pottery. Her studio is inspiration for all the handmade creations she does, whether it be large stained glass panels, suncatchers, pottyer, etc.

CUSTOM WORK - Cat is now doing smaller custom pieces such as bathroom windows, transom's and sidelights, kitchen cabinets, hanging panels, etc.

REPAIR- Cat does in-house repair work only and charges by the hour plus cost of materials. She can give you an estimate after seeing the piece and how extensive the damage is. Contact to make arrangements to bring your piece to the studio.

This window is Cat's greatest work up to now. It is located at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. The portion you see her measures 6' x 30 ' and is in the sanctuary. Another bottom portion is in the choir room and you see the whole image from the exterior of the building. The window was made in sections and transported to Nashville and installed in 1991. As well as the obvious symbolism in the design, there are hidden symbols such as the fish design within the lead lines.

Cat added doing pottery to the mix in 2008. She now have a Brent CXC pottery wheel and small Skutt kiln that I added to the seperate pottery room in the studio.
